Take it Outside: 3 Picture-Perfect Photoshoot Locations in the Oceanside Community
When it comes to conducting a brand photoshoot, the location you select is one very important piece of the visual narrative puzzle. While some clients have a brick-and-mortar storefront for us to shoot at, or a very clear picture of where they’d like to capture photos, most find this part of the photoshoot planning process a challenge. For that reason, location scouting is included in every brand photoshoot booked with me (after I’ve had the chance to learn more about your biz over an initial consultation call).
As a photographer on Vancouver Island, I’m always amazed by the abundance of natural beauty featured in our Coastal surroundings. Farms, forests, beaches, and mountaintops are just a few of the outdoor settings available in this vibrant region, and I’m letting you in on 3 of my favourite hidden gems to inspire your next shoot.
1. Madrona Point in Nanoose Bay
Well known by divers, but lesser known by the creative community, Madrona Point in Nanoose Bay is a serene oceanfront setting that offers breathtaking views and countless photo-opps, particularly at golden hour. One of the major perks about selecting this spot is the land’s diversity; with unique rock formations, fresh flowers and greenery (in spring and summer), unique driftwood, and even a massive washed up tree trunk, there are so many interesting perspectives to explore. Note: There is no public restroom available at this spot, so keep this in mind when preparing to head there, as it may also impact your outfit choices. Find Madrona Point on Google Maps, and note that parking is limited, so it may make sense to carpool if models are also attending.
2. Beachcomber Regional Park in Nanoose Bay
The small, but precious Beachcomber Regional Park is a hidden slice of paradise in Nanoose Bay with magnificent views of Craig Bay, Mount Arrowsmith, and the mainland’s coastal mountains. A walking trail brimming with beautiful arbutus, Douglas-fir and Gary Oak trees adds a refreshing change of scenery for those who wish to add some woodland shots to the mix without having to walk too far. 3. Top Bridge Regional Park in Parksville
Known as a local swimming hole in the Oceanside Community, Top Bridge Regional Park doubles as an excellent photoshoot location. A suspension bridge offers a unique perspective for lifestyle images with Englishman River as a backdrop, while petroglyphs in the park introduce a unique rustic charm to shots where a minimalistic background is desired.
